Varalaaru.com is a monthly web magazine dedicated to History with focus on Temple Arts, Architecture, Sculpture, Inscriptions & Heritage.

It was found by a team of young professionals whose interest in history sparked by Kalki.R. Krishnamurthy's classic Ponniyinselvan was transformed into a lifelong passion by Dr.R.Kalaikkovan, Director, Dr.M.Rajamanikkanar Institute of Historic Research - Tiruchirapalli.

Varalaaru.com was launched on Aug 15th, 2004 for sharing and spreading this passion and pursuit with fellow enthusiasts worldwide.

Over the years, Varalaaru.com has established itself as a trusted source of history, because of its staunch emphasis on original field research - seeking data from primary sources and then complementing it with secondary sources.

The team now includes several professionals - from budding researchers to expert historians - who come together every month and enrich the magazine with their contributions. As of Jan 2014, the team has successfully brought out over 100 issues of Varalaaru.com with more than 1200 articles that cover topics of wide ranging interest - while maintaining core focus on History.

Key achievements of Varalaaru.com include:

* Publication of several comprehensive articles covering Cave temples, Structural temples and Monoliths of Tamil Nadu - spanning the Pallava, Pandiya, Chola and other feudatory regimes. [2004-2014]

* Publication of felicitation volume titled Airavati in honour of renowned epigraphist Sri. Iravatham Mahadevan [2008]

* Paper presentation at Chemmozhi Manadu, Coimbatore [Gokul Seshadri & Kamalakkannan Shanmugam] [2010]

* Paper presentation in the International conference on Early Indian Influences in South Asia by ISEAS, Singapore [Gokul Seshadri][2007].

* Participation in various temple studies with Dr.R.Kalaikkovan and Dr.M.Nalini - including a comprehensive study on Thiruvalanchuzhi Temple [2005]

* Serialization & publication of three historic novels and an award winning short story collection by Gokul Seshadri [2008-2012]

* Rendering Padmabhushan K.R.Srinivasan Memorial Lecture in Thanjavur Rajarajeswaram premises by Gokul Seshadri [2005]

* Release of special issues on significant personalities & monuments like Mahendra Pallava, Rajasimha Pallava, Silpi R.Srinivasan and Raajarajeswaram.
